Who's at Risk?
You may be potentially at risk of developing prediabetes and eventually Type II diabetes if you have any of the following risk factors:

-
If you have a close family member who has, or had diabetes, particularly a parent or sibling
-
Are over the age of 40
-
High blood pressure
-
High cholesterol
-
Overweight or obese
-
Having a large waist size - greater than 40" for men and greater than 35" for women
-
Excess weight in the abdomen area
-
If you have had gestational diabetes or given birth to a particularly large baby
-
If you are Afro-Caribbean, South Asian or Native American you may be genetically predisposed to prediabetes
-
Smoking
-
Having obstructive sleep apnea
-
Having polycystic ovary syndrome

If you have one of the above risks, maybe go get checked out at the GPs as you may not exhibit symptoms that prediabetes is creeping up on you. A simple blood test showing your HbA1c figure will give a definitive answer.

Now having said all the above you may be as thin as a rake and exercise regularly and still land up as prediabetic. This could just be down to getting older and genetics.
