My Family Don't Understand

You've been diagnosed with prediabetes and gone home and told the family.  You explain you need diet and lifestyle changes, but they don't take that seriously and laugh it off.

Here is what they need to know if you don't make the lifestyle changes NOW.

Prediabetes can lead to full blown Type II diabetes.  This has serious health implications which can be avoided or delayed for years in most cases by making the recommended lifestyle changes to diet and exercise.

Below are just some of the major threats ahead if you tip over the cliff edge from prediabetes to Type II diabetes.

  • Heart disease and stroke

  • Loss of feeling and pain - nerve damage

  • Foot problems - sores and infections which could lead to amputation, especially if not treated

  • Vision loss and blindness

  • Miscarriage and stillbirth

  • Problems with your kidneys - may result in needing dialysis or a kidney transplant

  • Sexual problems - issues with getting or keeping an erection

These are all serious health conditions as a result of tipping into full blown Type II diabetes.  Just because people with Type II diabetes don't look ill, it doesn't mean to say they haven't got one of these serious health issues.

The lifestyle changes someone needs to make for prediabetes is a benefit to all the family in healthy living, healthy eating and healthy exercise.  These changes are permanent for life.
